Job Title: Director of Research & Development

Position Overview

This position is responsible for managing the R&D department, including product development, process development and maintenance of engineering records.

Essential Job Functions

  • Product development for copper; new products from inception to full production this includes design, drafting, and drawing process.
  • Improving, perfecting or adding to current product lines.
  • Process development; new processes, new capabilities development, improving and perfecting current processes.
  • Responsible to assure all projects are managed according to established departmental processes and priorities.
  • Produce clear and accurate engineering drawings and records for each project.
  • Maintain organized records and files on equipment to facilitate maintenance, accountability and future growth.
  • Facilitate the manufacture, assembly, and testing of new and modified machinery, tooling and replacement tooling.
  • Work with Directors of Manufacturing and Maintenance Manager to help coordinate installation of new and modified manufacturing machines, this includes the startup of new machines and processes and assist with the training of operators and maintenance on these machines.
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and technical resource to Project Engineers, Machine Tech, Tool & Die and Tool Specialists.

Requirements

  • Excellent general management, leadership and project management skills.

  • Ability to understand technical issues and understand impact on projects and effectively communicate these issues and impact to direct reports as well as other project stakeholders.

  • Flexibility in terms of dealing with changing priorities and dealing with multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills in order to deal with customers, business partners, staff and management from a variety of skill levels as well as different authority levels.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications

  • Proficiency in computer systems and technology

  • Proficient at writing and interpreting electrical wiring schematics and programs.

  • Proficient in pneumatic and hydraulic systems on machinery and equipment.

  • Knowledge and experience in welding (MIG, TIG).

  • Aptitude for computing, including CAD, CAM and CNC programing, robotics, mechanics and resource planning.

  • Remain in a sitting position and view a computer screen for extended periods of time

  • Repetitive motion movements using wrists, hands and or fingers

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field

  • Minimum 7 years in related industry with a minimum 3 years in a management role.
