Safety Coordinator

Department: Safety
Reports To: Director of Safety
Location: South Kansas City, MO

Position Overview

This position works with and through management, to ensure compliance with OSHA and all federal, state, local and industry specific regulations and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist, develop and implement the various components of the company’s safety program, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in evaluation and continual improvement of safety programs.
  • Assist, develop, plan, and conduct training for employees in work site safety practices.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepares findings and recommendations for corrective action, and follows up to ensure actions have been implemented.
  • Guide Managers in post-accident investigations and reporting to identify possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and management.
  • Leads or participates in Safety Committee.
  • Manages safety recognition program.
  • Maintains safety files and records.
  • Keep up to date with changes to laws and regulation that impacts the company.
  • Advises Director of Safety on safety, health and environmental compliance concerns and preventative actions.
  • Assist, develop and implement environmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondences and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Must be able to coordinate action plans and to mitigate hazards and monitor corrective actions.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people as part of a team.
  • Effective time management skills, including ability to prioritize workload to meet key deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying and presenting information in a clear and meaningful manner.
  • Knowledge of safety-related state and federal regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Safety Management experience preferred.
  • Experience developing, implementing, managing a safety program in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other compliant regulations and reporting in a manufacturing environment.
