Specification Sales Specialist

Reports To: Vice President of Commercial Sales
Location: South Kansas City, MO Plant

Position Overview

This position works as a team member with the Regional Sales Manager to grow sales and build customer relationships.

Essential Job Functions

  • Act as primary contact for Commercial Sales Managers and Commercial Sales Rep agencies and other field sales personnel.
  • Provide support as necessary to insure seamless communication regarding sales opportunities of specification products.
  • Possess excellent product knowledge as well as competitor product knowledge to be able to provide technical support to customers and internal sales associates.
  • Demonstrate general plumbing knowledge and be familiar with local and national plumbing codes.
  • Have the ability to read and understand project plans and schedules. Be able to build and present submittal packages for projects, do take offs and provide job quotes for said projects.
  • Utilize in-house job chase program to identify commercial projects, secure specifications, communicate to commercial sales team as necessary and follow up to record wins/losses and reasons for both in Goldmine.
  • Form relationships with and work closely with mechanical contractors and engineering firms to secure specifications and orders. This will also include working closely with traditional sales teams and rep agencies.
  • Assist with and conduct plant tours, round tables, and training – both online and in person as necessary.
  • Conduct presentations using excellent communication skills to ensure features and benefits are fully understood.
  • Travel as needed to build relationships, secure specifications, work with commercial sales managers and commercial sales rep agencies. Meet with contractors to do product presentations and to be on job sites to perform job site audits and ensure products are being used and installed correctly.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to build and set up product and training displays. Must be able to perform product demonstrations using appropriate tools - on job sites or in a controlled environment.
  • Be active with local, regional, and national industry organizations such as ASPE, PHCC, MCAA, WOC. Coordinate booth and other functions as well as attend trade shows associated with industry organizations.
  • Work with Marketing team to create effective sales tools such as brochures, spec sheets, technical bulletins, job quoting software, job sketch and layout schematics.
  • Work with sales team to effectively present and the Social Media team to effectively communicate to the appropriate customer base all the resources that are available.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Goldmine as well as other common tools.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of basic telephone technology.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands such as walking on the plant floor, job sites, lifting product, setting up displays using hand and power tools.

 Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Plumbing industry experience or knowledge is preferred.
