Needle Valves
Needle valves are used in plumbing systems to regulate lines having lower-flow rates with a higher degree of control. They operate using a slender, tapered (needle-shaped) stem that fits into a correspondingly shaped seat. As the handle is turned, the stem advances or retracts incrementally. This design enables more gradual, accurate adjustment of flow rate, rather than simple on/off control. Needle valves are commonly used in smaller-diameter supply lines to fixtures where precise flow regulation is required.
